So what should i expect for an 'inspection' when i drive to Mille Lacs friday night before the 4th weeekend? Will the inspect station be shut down if the gov shuts down? I'm guessing there will be hoards of cops south of mille lacs to inspect for weeds, etc. Anyone been through one of those inspections? How long do they take?

you should expect someone to come walking over and start checking out your trailer and ask to see in your livewell or bait buckets. they then proceed to inform you on what you already know acting like your 5 years old when they give their pep talk on aquatic weeds....

OK, I can handle that. I'll prepare myself to be annoyed and try to maintain some patience with these folks.

I'm not saying that putting that stupid sticker is going to be the fix, but I do agree that it is probably the most cost effective tool right now. A fee hike is out of the questions since to many cheapskates will complain, and any type of mandatory boating class will either cost the state to much (again with the complainers and the waste of money) or if they make the boaters pay for the class (more complainers on this one) would ignite a fury of DNR hate mail.

They could close ramps lakes but that would make people complain too. I suppose the DNR could put a fee on each and every ramp in the state to raise money for the program but I suppose that people would complain about that too. Another option would be to make people get their boat inspected before you can put it in the water like states out west are doing, but I imagine people would complain about that too.

I'm sure that if someone had a sure fire guaranteed way to educate the masses cheaply about the spread of ANS the DNR would be glad to hear about it. If not, I think we are stuck with a sticker.

It would have been great if people followed the rules 25 years ago so we didn't have this problem, but people didn't follow the rules so this is what we have.

I said a few months ago that states are taking Zebras and other ANS seriously, and it's going to be a pain in the butt for us for the next few years until we get used to the new rules.
