St Croix Cat Report - 6 June 2011

The St Croix is slowly creeping down and lets hope the rain holds off for awhile and we can get the river back within its banks. The water temp tonight was 74 degrees and the fish activity has increased significantly with the rising temps. Lots of bait visible and the cats are following.

I only fished from 2000 to 2200 tonight but the cats were hungry. I picked up 3 channel cats and a very small flathead all on cut bait. I did manage a King of the Cats upgrade out of one of the channel cats. I'm clawing my way up the channel cat leaderboard - I'm taking advantage of the improved channel bite to chase channel cats while the getting is good.

Warm again tomorrow and then a cool down in the forecast. I'm not sure what the weather change will do to the cat bite but they sure like this hot weather.

River today is at 682.6 feet and dropped about -0.24 feet in the last 24 hours. Normal pool elevation is 675.5 feet so we are still about 7 feet high. The islands are still under water and don't start to show until about 680 feet. Current flow north of Stillwater is slight to moderate - Mississippi must be backing up the St Croix.

Anybody been out lately? Lookin to hit Douglas Point Park on Sunday. Never fished there...is it worth givin it a shot?
