Weed Type

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Been out fishing the past few days for the skies as usual fishing the same weed lines as I always do. Something I never really payed attention to over the years are the type of weed beds I've been fishing. One lake I find myself fishing heavy cabbage, another I find myself fishing milfoil, others cattails... Was just wondering if Skies like a certain type of weed over another? or what time of the season do you fish certain weeds?

Hopefully it'll help narrow down my hunt for a monster

I hate Milfoil and I try to avoid the stuff but I know it holds fish in it and around it. Coontail and cabbage are my favorite especialy if it is deeper and close to structure or drops off into deep water. Some lakes don't have much for weeds so you have to take what you can get. Last year I caught more fish out of the weeds than in the weeds.

i guess i'm the exception because i love fishing milfoil, not that i have much of a choice in the metro, i just don't like the little floaties. however, the muskies don't care and will use whatever is green, so that's probably the most important thing, healthy weeds. early on it's cabbage, then milfoil, then the deeper coontail in late fall.
