Printer won't print from one specific computer

Recommended Posts

I've lost the ability to print to my Canon MG8100 with the Windows 7 home computer.

I can print from the Vista laptop.

The 7 computer says the printer isn't on the network.

I tried unistalling the printer, but I can't seem to delete it.

Is this a wireless printer? How is your Win 7 machine connected to your home network?

If you want to delete that printer, try highlighting the printer from "Devices and Printers" via your Start button, along the top bar you should see "Print Server Properties", click that option.

Click the driver tab

Highlight your print driver and hit delete.

If it fails, you will need to go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services (The Administrative Tools appears when View By "Small Icons" or Large Icons" is selected within Control Panel in the upper right hand corner)

Find the Print Spooler service, right click on that service and choose stop, then start. Try deleting the print driver again.

Before you go too far, just try reinstalling it. My guess is that the driver is corrupt, happens pretty often in the computer world. Next guess would be an IP change if your printer is getting an IP address automatically.

With Win 7 You do have to install the device twice. Once as a system device and second as a network device.

Once in Network (LOL I Highlighted the wrong thing and click "Add a Printer" to the right of the Yellow):

and of course as a device:

If you installed it on the network just make sure it is still being displayed as being on the network.

If you use the master Suite that I assume comes with the printer or can be downloaded from the Manu's website, it does this all for you. I should say "should". It will then show up in your devices multiple times depending on how you install it (I.E. Wirless, USB, eithernet cable). If you are running multiple printers of the same make and model on hooked into the machine different ways, well you will want to rename them when install so you know what it which one.

Then you have the mentioned above. Or could be a hard ware issue with the printer. A little more downlow on the info is need but should be a simple fix. Rebooting the PC/Laptop should be done also. Win 7 will correct most IP related issues with a reboot. Uninstall and reinstall is next on the list.

Shack -

You have enough copies of your Brother printer?? Do you have one for each IP address it wants?? wink

Anyways, thanks for the help.

I did a reboot of the Win 7 computer and the printer was no longer listed.

I did a search, but the printer couldn't be found.

I went to the printer and reset the WLAN settings, choosing a different access point (have many scattered around the house).

Re-searched for the printer and this the Win 7 computer found it and printed.

I don't know why it won't recognize the printer with the other access point.

ARP(Address Resolution Protocol) cache. When on the same subnet, devices uses MAC addresses instead of IP addresses. What happens is that a network device(switch, router AP) will get a corrupt MAC address in the table and you have to clear the ARP table or reboot the device.

Lol I just love my printer. laugh I actually do even though it is a Brother. :wink. Enough so I kept a look out and found them going for $149.00 a piece. My work bought them up and I use one at home. I just did a poor job with naming but has been tracking them down and naming. The photo printing is not top notch but for an ink jet print very nice. The kicker is it has two trays and both go ip to 11"x17". Hard to get a good printer that can print out CAD prints and drawings on 11"x17" ledger for under a grand. These have worked flawless and working in the fab world with seniors laugh huge difference between letter and ledger. wink

Being able to walk up with any flash memory wireless, card or device, hook up and edit and print right from the machine has been cool.

I think upNort is on the case. I agree.

    • Power output is:  amps x volts = watts   If your charger is pushing 10amp at 12 volt: 12 x 10 = 120 watts.  2 banks = 240 watts.   240 watts / 120v at your outlet = 2 amp.   Efficiency isn't 100% so it's gonna be more than 2 amp on your garage circuit, but maybe like 2.4 amps.     I think.... It's been a while, LOL.  Either way 20amps output on a charger for a 12v battery isn't the same as pulling 20amps off your garage circuit.
    • Wanderer, thank you. I did look at the breakers for my garage/outside outlets and they are 20 amp.  I reached out to the company that makes dual pro chargers with the question and this is the reply I received.:     Thank you for reaching out to us here at PCS. The Sportsman series charger, although rated ay 10 amps per bank, draws only 5 amps from AC when all banks are charging. As the Professional series which provides 15 amps per bank, has a maximum AC draw of 7.5 amps with all banks charging.
    • That’s an interesting point.  While I understand how Amps work, I can’t say I’m fully versed in the draw of modern on board chargers.   By modern code, outdoor and outbuilding outlets should be 20 Amp.  If your outside or garage outlets are 15 Amp, they’re undersized.  But that is quite possible if the garage was built before that code became enforced.   With heavy use, you may not be able to keep up on daily charging without the 10 Amp per channel charger, however that’s with very aggressive use for consecutive days.  On our June muskie trip we run up to 15 hours a day for up to 7 days on a 24V Ulterra and by mid week we’re starting to see the batteries not reach full charge.  That’s a lot of bank running at nearly 2 mph on windy shores.   We charge at a dock with up to 6 boats per dock plugged in - some with 36 volt systems.  Now I’m not sure if all the outlets are on a dedicated circuit but I’m betting they aren’t.  But they’re all 20A outlets with a lot of draw on them.  At max draw, they’re not keeping up but also not tripping the breakers.   What I’m saying, without a technical review is: you’re probably fine either way.  You probably won’t tax your batteries so much that they can’t recover on a 5 Amp per channel overnight charge and a 10Amp per channel charger probably won’t be too much to plug into your 15A outlet - if it really is a 15A.  If you’re sure, you’re sure, but I would double check if you’re not 100%.
