Boat trailer blowing fuses on tow vehicle - why?

Gadgetman

Question

Went up to Leech this weekend and between backing into the lake and driving in the rain I was blowing fuses on my Yukon like they were going out of style. The odd thing is it was only the running light fuse that was blowing.l I still had brake and turn signals. Am I correct in assuming that there must be a crack in the coating on one the running light wires? They are run inside the frame of the trailer so I cant easily see them. Any ideas?

Hopefully the problem is on an easy to reach piece of wiring near the spare tire - this happened to me. I spliced in some new trailer light wires on my silverado because my trailer lights weren't working on the snowmobile trailer. So my problem was between the bumper and rear wheel. Simple fix. Hopefully this helps

Been there, done that. The wires inside my trailer frame were rubbed and exposed wire was barely visible. When water got into the frame, shorting running lights and blew the fuse. Attach a string to one end, pull wiring out of frame and inspect. In nothing's wrong use the string to pull the wire harness back through frame. Check wire condition around lights and connections first.
