Channel Cats in Lakes

I thought it would be a neat alternative this summer to try and chase some channels in a few of the Southern MN lakes that have good populations. There are a few within a half-hour of my house or so. I'm not a pro catter by any means, and haven't fished for them specifically since high school--and that was in the river. My question is, does the technique vary when you don't have a lot of current to carry scent? Is slow trolling a better option? Do lake cats hold to structure or roam along the bottom throughout the basin in search for food? I've studied the "Beginners" thread but haven't found a lot specifically around lake fishing. Just looking for what others have experienced to point me in the right direction on technique. I'll also report back after a journey or two on anything I experienced.
