primer bulb help

hi 6 hp evinrude 1989 model runs great. hard to start cold if i squeeze the bulb many many times then it starts right up like the bulb doesnt hold. i bought a new bulb and put it on today i havent tried it but i'm i on the right track. when i started it cold after storage i pulled for ever then after priming the bulb for ever a good 20 times then it just popped right off if it sits a day or two starts right up but let it sit awhile same thing thanks for your help

Primer bulb is the first thing to replace. If the problem persists I would replace the fuel pump.

Feel for gas going through the bulb and listen for gas going into the carbutaror. It'll have kind of a swishing noise.

thanks guys it appears to be fixed i hear a swishing noise when i pump it thanks

Same thing with my 1961 Evinrude 18. Pull the choke all the way out while your pulling till she kicks. Let go of the choke and give her another pull. She should fire right up. Hope this works for you.
