Boat Carpet & Gasoline

Nainoa

Question

So the other day my buddy spilled about a half cup of gasoline on the back deck of my boat. We sprayed it immediately with the hose.

Last night I went out there and noticed that the area where he spilled the gas the boat carpet is now loose... I assume the gas soaked through and ruined the glue.

Is there anything I can do... like say cut a tiny hole in it and spray new adhesive in there?

Having a loose piece of carpet on the back casting deck is the wrong kind of tripping hazard in the wrong place!

I think you may need to roll that section up, scrap the old wood glue off, then allow it to dry and reapply a shot of new marine adhesive.

You likely hosed most of the gas from the carper. Yet it may likely linger in the wood and the old glue would cause problems with the new if you just squirted it in.
