Those old "wormin" rods

Recommended Posts

Ok you crafty lure designers....I have a question for ya. Years ago, my dad and I used to "pick" nightcrawlers during the day using an old electric rod that a long since gone friend made in his shop. It looked like a fairly sturdy metal rod, ground to a point at the end that goes into the ground, with a bike handle-like rubber end with an electrical cord like from a lamp on the end. We used to go out after a good rain and after plugging this in, stick it into the ground and wait a few minutes for the nightcrawlers to come out, then carefully pick them up and Voila! instant bait.

We have lost the rod (probably years ago).

Now, unemployment is putting a hamper on the fishing outlook for this year, so I am wondering how I can make one? Internet searching has revealed possible solutions that vary from using one metal rod to needing two separate rods...what I REALLY want to know is...how should the wires be attached to ONE rod in order to "electify" it? One? or both? one on each side and one grounded(taped to itself)? If you masters of design can help I would really appreciate it...the walleyes, won't, but I'm hoping you'll ignore their pleas for help...lol Thanks in advance.

And if you're wondering why I need such fundamental assistance, it is cuz dad is 80 and being a tomboy like I am...I love to hunt and fish, but dealing with electricity is not my forte...thanks again.
