Cheetah
I made it home from Rapid City last night. We watched for pheasants on the way out last week Thursday afternoon, and this week Tuesday afternoon coming home. Many more pheasants along the ditch west of the river, especially between Murdo and Presho. East of the river there was a lot of standing water, lots of waterfowl, very few pheasants. Not sure if the numbers are down or if it is just all the water keeping them away from the road. I recall it being just the opposite last year when I made this drive the same time. East side had more birds than the west.
Arago
Appreciate the update. Good for duck hunting..bad for roosters.
Jarrod32
A couple comments...the pheasants are still around, you are just not seeing them. Maybe not in as great a numbers as the past couple years, but they wintered fairly well and there are still plenty around. But you are correct on the waterfowl...there are a lot of "resident" ducks around. The last couple years (here in northeast SD anyway) the duck hunting has been better than the pheasant hunting. And the pheasant hunting has been very, very good...
