carks
Heading to Berry lake ontario in mid August for walleyes and have never been. I understand the lake has not been surveyed, so no lake map or chip with depths or structure. Any info on locations to fish, colors, bait, rigging etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Epick4
I have fished Berry Lake several times. For walleye, I like to wind drift grass flats bouncing a chartreuse 3/16 oz jig w/ or w/o a mister twister and tipped w/ minnow/1/3 crawler/leach. I've also had success vertical bouncing 3way, egg sinker, & spinner rig over rock piles at 1/2 to 1 mph and along sandy staging areas (between deeper holding areas & shallow feed areas) 1 to 2 mph. For lakers, I trust Luhr-Jensen cow-bells split-ringed to a Prescott strip-on spinner with a minnow slid over a 16 inch leader of 14 lb mono tied to a medium treble hook. As the minnow slides down the leader, insert treble eye & shaft in the anus of the minnow to prevent line twist. A good duo-lock/snap swivel on the main line prevents twist as well. Ahead of the cowbells, use inline snap-sinkers, vary from 1 to 4 oz to find proper depth, and troll at 1 to 2 mph in 60 - 120 feet of water.Best northern lure last trip was a clown Xrap in calm bays when to windy to fish for lakers & eyes.Tight lines, epick4
carks
Thanks for the input, do you have any suggestions as for a decent map of the lake and further more specific locations to try on the lake. I am only renting a boat and motor from Berry Lake Camp but am not staying at the camp, Hopefully the Camp can give me a map and some locations as well. Thanks I really appreciate your input. Epick4
I am not aware of a decent map for Berry Lake. I have looked on the internet and at the Bait shops in/around Sioux Narrows. Google maps will give you an overview to get an idea of how the lake lies. Al, the guy who owns Berry Lake Camp, may have an old map with some approximate depths on it. If you send me a private message, I can see if I can send you an attached scan of the map that I have. Tight lines, epick4
