Bass Pursuit Fishing League

BASS PURSUIT FISHING LEAGUE

We would like to invite you to the inaugural season of the Bass Pursuit Fishing league. We have been in weeknight fishing leagues for the better part of 4 years. Though we have always thoroughly enjoyed each season, the difficulties of weekday fishing has spurred some new ideas for our own fishing league. Weekday fishing leagues are usually tough because of the rush to get to the lake on time, fighting traffic, and then only left with 3 hours of fishing and then driving home after dark only to have to get up within hours to go back to work the next day. Participating in saturday tournaments all year as an only alternative can prove to be very costly with entry fees.

The Bass Pursuit fishing league will provide the following benefits:

A sunday morning fishing time schedule. Fishing times will be from sun-up to 11:30 am. This will allow us to get a more peaceful time on the water before most of the pleasure boaters will consume the lake. We will skip the major travel holidays to allow for family business. Tentatively the following dates are on our schedule.

June 5th

June 19th

July 10th

July 24th

August 7th

August 21st

Sept. 11th

Sept. 25th reserved for makeup date or final championship.

We would like to focus on the south metro lakes as they provide an excellent fishery.

Lake Marion

Crystal Lake

O'Dowd

Cedar Lake(scott cty)

Waconia

Prior Lake

Medicine? or Minnetonka? or Shields?

To keep costs down but make it competitive enough, the entry fee will be $200 per boat/team for the year. $150 of that would be going to the weekly payout and $50 going to the end of the year champions. Example: 15 boat league weekly payout:1st place $175 2nd $100 Big Bass $45

End of year champs: 1st $350 2nd $ 200 3rd $125 4th $75

I will also look into getting sponsors. Just like softball leagues, places are willing to sponsor events and leagues as long as we come and spend some money at their establishment.

This will be a 5 fish bag limit with an emphasis on releasing the fish alive and healthy. Most of the rules will be standard tournament rules that will be discussed before our first league outing.

We will also have a HSOforum with all the latest news and standings.

We hope to hear from you soon so we can set up the league and have a preseason meeting to discuss all facets of the league. Thank you and Good bassin'.

Yes, it can be one or two man teams. It's something we can discuss at our preseason meeting. I will get a date settled on sometime this week. Everyone is invited to talk about the league and just fishing in general. 13 more days till we can bass fish in WI at least.

The preseason meeting is set up for next Wednesday, May 4th at 6:30 pm at Carbonne's restaurant and bar in Burnsville. The address is 251 W Burnsville Pkwy (It is the old Benchwarmer Bob's off 35W.)

We will go over any questions or suggestions for the league including rules and format. We look forward to meeting everyone and talking about fishing.

We do have some spots available. If you are still thinking about joining and would like some input into the league, this is your chance. We just want to provide an opportunity and format for some fun competitive fishing for everyone.

  • Your Responses - Share & Have Fun :)

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
