Tying spinners...

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to learn how to tie my own spinners, but I can't figure out how to tie a snell knot that doesn't start to unwind with a little reverse pressure (i.e., trying to push the line back out of the hook eye). I'm using 12 lb. Sufix to practice.

Am I missing something? I have looked up a bunch of youtube videos, and I'm pretty sure I'm doing it properly, but all the knots I tie unravel a bit. Any tips?

I guess I have never had the problem with that. What kind of snell knot have you been doing? I used to tie the uni snell knot which held well but was a pain in the butt to tie.

This year I tied a bunch up with a different knot I learned from youtube. They were easy to tie, hopefully they hold well. Here is the link:

I use the knot that midwesthunter posted. When you make the loop over the eye of the hook to wrap the shank leave a little more of a loop there. Then when you come back through the eye from the back side make sure your line goes through that loop when you go through the eye of the hook. When everything is pulled tight the knot won't come loose. Hope this makes sense. After you tie a few you don't need as big of a loop. Just make sure the line is up on the eye and not off to the side when you start your wrap, feed the line back through and it's done.

Had the same problem you did when I started using that knot till I figured out that part of it.
