April 9th

Went out fly-fishing friday the 9th, and had a pretty good day. 70 degrees and sunny, and a few hungry fish. 3 of us caught about 15 brownies, 2 of them over a foot (didn't get a pic of the biggest one :/) and most fish around 10" - not too big but fun on a fly rod. First fish was caught on the surface with a tiny midge after seeing a couple fish rising near the bank. Spent a while fishing scuds and caddis nymphs without too much success, then tied on some woolly buggers and to my surprise the fish went crazy for them. Last fish of the day before heading back to watch the twins game absolutely pounded a woolly bugger twitched extremely slowly along an undercut bank. The fish came out of its hiding place under the undercut bank and nose-dived into the mud to grab it...very cool to watch.

hay creek, about 5-10 miles west of red wing. you ever fished there before? there are a ton of fish (80% of 'em probably in the 5-8" range) but they spook easily...crouching and walking slow seemed to work though
