Getting Dormant Boat Alive Again

Recommended Posts

Previous owner said my boat had been sitting for 10 years. Should I be cleaning the carpet inside from any dirt/dust? if so how and with what? can i just take the garden hose and give a good spray down cause i want to clean out the live well that way also. And is there anything else i should do other than normal spring stuff. So far it looks like all my electronics r working.

Have you gone through the motor and changed the lower unit oil? I would think strongly about changing the water pump.

As far as cleaning, yes you should be able to take a hose and spray it all down including the live well. Make sure the plug is out when you do it so the water can run out. You might also think about running a wet/dry vacuum over the carpet before you hose it down to get most of the bigger stuff so that way it clog up underneath the floor boards and stop water flow to the drain at the rear of the boat. Guys use pressure washers on them all the time and you could even take it the local self serve wand carwash and hose it down there.

With the live well, you might also think about making up a bucket of bleach and water, get a rag and scrub down the inside walls just to kill off anything that may be living there. Make sure that you rinse it out good after you are done.

Hope that helps some anyway.

Kyle
