Dangerous? You have no idea...

The trouts there have evolved to the point that they school up and keep the ice paper thin on the travel routes, to catch unsuspecting fishermen. When the snowmachine hits the bad ice and goes down, the trouts swarm like piranhas, and even Ice Armor is no match for the ferocity of the attack.

Those lakers get big for a reason - and the specks grow fast on the flesh of the fishermen also..... I understand there was a concerted effort years ago to put a stop to this when a group of well-equipped fishermen headed out to wipe out the Killer Trouts. The epic Battle of Shakespeare Island is known to only a few, mostly because the trouts won, and the surviving fishermen headed south - and became musky anglers. To this day, the survivors will not eat a fish - and most begin crying when they see a large fish.....

Thanks JR ~ I like that, especially the part of the surviving anglers becoming musky anglers. Too funny. lol

Your rendition is reason renough for me to only fish in the boat, where it's just a little safer....maybe.

I've been up there once in the boat but always wanted to ice fish there.

Nipigon is heaven on earth for any fisherman. The problem is that once you go, you will never want to go anywhere else. A man could spend his entire life fishing that lake and it's tributaries, and still not know everything!

Hardcore- I seriously envy what's in your backyard man!
