burnt my lawn w/fertilizer

Rake up the dead grass, removing all the thatch until you reach dirt. Then get some grass seed and sprinkle on it, lightly raking it in. Then using the old dead grass cover it up and water it. By covering it up, the birds won't go after it. A hint for the next time you fertilize, get some bags of turkey fertilizer. It is what golf courses use. Just be sure to water it right away, to cut down on the odor. Also..rake it in before watering. ~My 2 cents

Rake up any fertilizer that might be visable. Using the hose, directly on the spot/s, water thoroughly.

If there was enough fertilizer to burn and kill the grass, there is probably still enough residue left in the soil to impede your new growing efforts.

With a spade, extract the dead patch (If it is'nt to large) in a square pattern and replace the square with a piece of sod. It has to be watered religiously, but you will have instant lawn.

The other way is to remove the dead spot, or if to large, hand or power rake the spot, water, seed (Heavy) with a quality seed, cover with a thin layer of soil, maybe a quarter of and inch or so and water everyday, even after the grass appears to be growing good.

Don't mess with putting down any starter fertilizer, or anything like that, because the soil has already been over medicated and don't use any weed and feed in the area of the seeds, or any kind of weed spray.

The seeds and/or the new grass shoots are very delicate and it does'nt take much to do them in. Hope this helps.

I would put on water and then more water and then water some more. You should dilute and leach out as much of the Nitrogen as possible before reseeding or the new grass will just keep on burning up. I would also consider waiting to seed till we are done with the hot wheather. Good Luck!
