Night Fishing - Help

Guest

Recommended Posts

Is there anywhere around the Twin Cities area that allows overnight fishing on the boat? Say like if i wanted to take the boat out to do some walleye or muskie fishing, where can I go and where can I put the trailer and truck?
Also, do they allow that on the St. Croix river also? If so, where?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I know people camp on the islands around Hudson on the St Croix.

You can be out all night on the Mississippi, just be ready to get out of the way of barges! The public boat launches close, but check out private Marinas for overnight parking.

Also, if you can find public parking outside the park walking distance from the ramp, then you are good to go.

As far as I know, unless there are special regs, you can be on any body of water overnight. Parking is the only issue. You could also ask a neighbor/friend to drop you and your boat off, then pick you up the next morning.

Webwarrior if it was me I'd hit Deer in Cheeseland. You'll get bit without much traffic. Downside is the skis are not very big. I think the city lakes are another option but you'll have to park on the street.

All launches with these restrictions should be posted. The postings I've seen range from "no overnight parking", "no camping" & "no parking 1/2 or 1 hour after/before dawn/dusk".

I usually see the "no camping" in NW WI and have no problems fishing most of the night @ these ramps.

When there are dusk/dawn curfews these are usually @ city & county park fee launches and usually there's a gate so you'll want to make sure you know the rules @ these parks.

I've fished some lakes until 11:30 or 12:00 at lakes that I know the police stop by at. I've even seen them come into the parking lot. Never had a problem or a ticket. Just my thought but I think if police see you are fishing they don't care. I've even come in at 11:00 to have a police at the boat ramp and they don't even say anything. I'm sure they run your plates. Are you wanted? If so don't do it. smile.gif

You should be OK on just about any lake. I have fished many metro area lakes into 2am and 3am, and as someone else said, I've seen police in the parking lot checking things out, they saw me out on the lake, no big deal. They just don't want you sleeping in your truck...

Go out and fish...

I fish many many metro lakes till midnight(weekdays) and even later 2:00am on some weekends.I have never had any trouble.I have talked with a few police officers after fishing, and they have never said a word about me being out late. This even goes for a couple lakes with county parks being closed at dusk.I think their main concern is that I am sober.

I worry more about the van getting windows smashed.
