Nylostrand leader wire?

This is likely a dumb question, but when making leaders, why would one want to use nylostrand wire with the nylon coating. I suppose it may offer some abrasion resistance, but not much. A toothy critter would cut through that thin layer like butter. Also, it would seem to make the leader more visable. I accidently grabed the nylo at thornes when I meant to grab the bare stranded style. I am going to take it back unless yall, can tell my why I would want to use it.

I don't know of any. I only use the uncoated wire (but AFW brand). I've never had a problem. Maybe for saltwater they like it coated, though like you said, the first fish would tear a lot of the coating off.

yeah go ahead and take it back, in my opinion the only reason they did that was to have another product on the shelf to make more money on. Your correct it offers hardly any abrasion resistance at all and you can test that fact by simply biting down on a piece of the wire and pulling it slowly through your teeth. the nylon can also take a beating from the sun's UV rays which will end in deterioration.

Basicaly it is put on to reduce wire glare plus make it pretty so we buy it.
