life=outdoors92
while everyone goes and makes wood duck houses, dont forget to go ahead and make some hen houses for those mallards too!
jparrucci
Just finished building and installing my first wood duck house. Hopefully I'll be able to look out the back door in the nextcouple of months and see some little fur balls swimming. I thought about doing the mallard platform, but I would rather see the woodducks. Either way, it was much more expensive than I intially thought it would be. I made sure to include a predator guard as well, even though the house is over water. I see the MWA and Wood Duck Society will sell these too you, but you would think DU or Delta would be more proactive with some type of mass production that is cheaper to do. Instead DU will help buy some carpy swamp that wont produce ducks. Reading how successful both the wood duck house and the hen mallard nest (also used by redheads, scaup, gadwalls, cans) would seem to be a pretty cheap and productive way to make sure we gets some birds hatched.
