Sling Box

Walleye Guy

Question

At our lake home in Wisconsin I am paying for a satelite TV service from Dish Network. I am contemplating dumping that service and having a DSL line installed and then buying a sling box so I can just view my TV programming from our home at the cabin. This will allow both TV and an high speed internet connection at the cabin for roughly the same cost as the Dish service.

Before I go down this path I want to make sure I know what I am getting into. Has anybody used Sling Box? What are the pro's and cons? What should I watch out for? Do I need a dedicated computer at both locations? Any issues with hooking the signal up to a TV? I have 6 year old 36" flat screen tube TV. If I have the proper wiring can I get signals on multiple TVs?

Thanks.

i have a slingbox solo. it works great! decent quality depending on connection speed. i have the software on my phone too.

i use it on my laptop which has an hdmi out that i hook up to a tv with. works pretty good only thing is theres just an onscreen remote and there is a little delay. and sometimes you have to zoom the tv in to get the stream to fill the picture. not a big deal.

they use to make, maybe you can still get one, a sling catcher that you could hook up to your tv to get the signal. not sure how those work.

i would say you would probably need to hook a computer to a tv. with an older tv that might be a problem.

maybe they have some other "boxes" with slingplayer, netflix, hulu, and other apps on there that you can hook to your tv. That would be the ticket!
