Propane problems

TV BOY

Question

Was on Mille Lacs this weekend catchin jack squat, but having a good time at the perch extravaganza. I knew my 1st tank of gas was low so I opened the valve on the second and quickly flipped the switch to the 2nd tank. I checked the stove top to make sure the gas was flowin and it was. So the house was very warm when we went to sleep, Instead of a rattle wheel waking me up my wife says i'm cold. I felt the furnace and it was warm but not hot. I turned on the cook top and it lit but didn't burn very high. There was a lot of frost on the line where it comes into the house. The tank had propane, tried flipping back to the 1st tank which was low but not empty. Not wanting to Richard around at 5 below and not catching fish anyway we packed it in and drove home at 3:30 in the morning.

So now I got some sleep and went out to empty the house and try the stove and of course now it burns like normal. What the heck happened? and what can I do not to repeat this?

I had the same exact problem a couple of times. Finally I got a new regulator and threw away the "flip over switch" The cook top would burn just as you discribed. The problem seemed to happen when it got below zero. Now I have to go out and change the empty tank by hand with a wrench. No big deal, at least I know it is going to work.

If you get a new regulator, make sure you get the correct size. They are BTU rated according to your furnace.
