MP 40 replica, IH M1 garand

Recommended Posts

I am was going through one of my safes the other day and was wondering what these two items might be worth? Also if anyone knows of a M1 garand expert near St. Cloud. I would like this gun looked at to see if all the parts are original International Harvester (It appears to be)

The other gun is a MP 40 replica, its all metal and the bolt even works, colapsable stock, is this worth anything at all?

Man, I wish I could go through my gun safe and find those guns! I'll take a stab at helping you out.

Ok, first the M1. Consider yourself very lucky to have a IH Garand. International Harvester only made 337, 623 rifles which is the least amount if the 4 manufacturers (Springfield Armory, Winchester, Harrington & Richardson, and International Harvester). A far as matching parts go there are a few you can check without field stripping. The face of the gas plug under the muzzle should have "IHC" stamped on it. The bolt should have a capital D followed by a 7 digit drawing number with "IHC" at the end. If you pull back and lock the operating rod and look at the barrel where the op rod covered it you should see "LMR" with a month and year of manufacture stamped. There have been some IH rifles with Springfield barrels (SA month-year stamped) that are original. Other than that you would have to field strip it and check the guts of the rifle, which would all be marked "IHC" for original parts. MOST M1's are mix-master rifles. For example, my 1953 SA has a 1950 barrel, 1945 bolt and safety, mid 40's trigger grouping, etc. If you have all original IH parts, then you have one helluva collector's piece on your hands.

As far as the MP-40 replica, I would assume if it does fire it's made to fire blank rounds. I have seen a few of these around and they are all new production but made exactly as the original German SMG in terms of operation and weight. The last one I saw was about two weeks ago at a gun shop listed for $500 I believe.

One last thing to consider is if you do take any rifle to a gun shop to get an appraisal, you have to take whatever they tell you with a grain of salt. About a year ago I considered selling my M1 (glad I didn't!!). The person that looked at didn't know that I have some good knowledge about Garand's. He told me it was worth about $350 tops. It's actually worth more in the $900 to $1000 range. Most gun shops are like car dealerships, the want as big a profit as they can get.

I hope some of this helps you out. On a side note, I'm usually in the St. Cloud area a few times a month when I visit my parents in Royalton. If you wouldn't mind I would be more than happy to take a look at it and answer any other questions you may have.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
