Rifling for a .410 shotgun?

Recommended Posts

I hunt with a .410 does anyone know if I can get the barrel rifled at a gunsmith? I only use them for deer hunting. Would rifling improve the ballistics for this caliber?

I have a New England Arms bolt and a Mossberg 500.

Moose, a .410 is a poor choice for deer hunting to start with. The idea of creating a rifled barrel is possible I suppose. How large is your budget? Have you checked out the "rifled" shotgun slugs? A variety out there but perhaps not in .410.

If you have a Mossberg 500 in a larger bore it would be a far better deer hunting shotgun. A 12-gauge shotgun slug usually will put a deer on the ground right NOW if properly placed.

Keep the .410 for potting tree sitting grouse or maybe a rabbit.
