Hummingbird Ice55 target option

I have not used this feature yet on my new 55, I am trying to figure out the purpose, is it to make sure the fish are at a certain level and not on the outside of the cone? Any comments?

It's a marker so you can get right back to the same depth you just caught one at as fast as possible. I usually just remember where that was on the dial.

Sometimes I use it to mark where my bait is and turn the gain down lower. If i jig it, the bait will show back up, but if i let it sit, the gain doesn't pick it up.

I've also used it to mark where the crappies were coming through on the dial. So if there's some action down on the bottom that I go work but eventually want to go back up to the suspended area, I have it marked.

Last thing I've used it for is marking other jigs/bait in the water. If I have a buddy who is in the same portable as me, I can pick up his jig too sometimes. I like to mark theirs with the target so i know its not a fish and to try for it!

I use it to mark the sweet spot when I am fishing in weeds. Even with the Narrow Beam you will pick up weeds when they are really thick. I use the Target to set the spot I am fishing so I know where to lower my jig to.

Also, when fishing Lake Trout over deep water it works great. Usually the fish are coming through at a certain depth. I use the target line to mark that depth so I know where to start jigging. Same is true with suspended crappies, helps you fish above them.
