Propane heater question!

Posted this on the "Equipment" section but no response:

Anybody know why a 10 year old Strikemaster can type propane heater goes hot and cold?

Started heating just fine then to wake up during the night with the temp @ 55 degrees. So I turn the valve wide open and no increase in heat. Could it be the 10 year old regulator on a 100lb. tank? Moiture in gas line? Etc.?

I have the 20,000 btu handi-heater, I think is the same as yours. I'm guessing because it only happens at night you are running a propane tank that is 1/2 full or less. When it gets really cold out you need to have a tank hooked up that close to full. Could be a regulator problem also, but probably not if it works fine during the day.

I take mine apart every 3 years or so and clean it up, inside and out. I repaint it with hi-temp BBQ grill spray paint. Looks and works like brand new when I'm done with it.
