Just wondering what people thaught of barbless hooks? I have and use both. I would like to use barbless but in cases where getting tangled in brush or weeds is a problem I lose too many. Icin I've lost a few but not too bad when have a hard time gettin them turned up the hole. I do believe it's easier on the fish when practicing CPR. Not that this happens often but if a person gets into lots of fish it makes it nice on the hands releasing all them fish. grin.gif: Wondering what other peoples experiences are on the subject.

griz we have been crimping the barbs on lures for a long time. especially when fishing for the fun of it. mainly my muskie lures and bass lures. we do loose some fish with them, but releasing is soooo much easier and just incase we catch one of us !!! i don't have any more trouble getting snagged by crimping the barbs when using texas rigs. was this what you were talking about? or did you have something else in mind ? del

Manitoba has been barbless for several years and I do NOT find I loose fish because there is no barb on the hook. If U have a problem with keeping minnows or bait on the hook a little trick we use is take a small piece of rubber tail and slip that over the tip of the hook.

I don't figure I loose more than a couple fish per year because of being barbless. It is the only way to go.

I like barbless hooks because it makes releases a lot easier. The downside: the barb does indeed catch a few more fish. barbless hooks are notorious for not holding bait on the hook. I always turn treble barbs down on stick baits and have seldom lost a fish on a treble due to the barb being turned down.

Thanks for the idea of puttin the little piece of rubber to hold bait on. Manitoba that is what got me into pinching some of my barbs shut. Never lost any fish up there, but got back home and when the fish got in the weeds or around some brush then I lost a few more than I was comfortable with. Up there it was hardly any weeds atleast in the lake I was on.
