blarkey
I have a 2000 Polaris xplorer 250 and only one front tire engages in 4-wheel there's oil in the hubs and there's power coming from the switch. Any suggestions?
LatLong
This is going back quite a few years but if I remember correctly my dad had an Explorer 400 that this happened to and it turned out to be the hub magnet. There is a magnet with some wires in the hub and either the wires were broken or the magent was corroded.
blarkey
I tried to remove the hub but it didn't want to come out easy so I stopped any tricks to it besides the three screws
blarkey
got the hub off and trying to figure out how to test the magnet.
usmcjsy
These hubs are very sensitive I recommend bringing it in. They have to be adjusted within 100ths or thousandths on an inch. I had this problem on my scrambler. The mech told me that the hub (hillard clutch in the hub) had been replaced but when it was they did not have it set with in specs. He said you really gotta know what your doing with them as you cannot tell just by looking at it. I only had that problem once 3 yrs ago and since I brought it in I have never had the problem again. I dont remember what it costed but I think it was like $120 to get fixed.
spearchucker
I would start by checking the wire going to the hub. They can break or become intermittent.
blarkey
there so small I dont want to strip or try to poke them to test
spearchucker
there so small I dont want to strip or try to poke them to test Can't you check where they connect to the coil itself? Otherwise you may be replacing a perfectly good hub coil and still not fix your problem.
blarkey
I dont now how to test it there
spearchucker
Check for voltage with the 4x4 switch on. If you don't have it, then it is the switch or the wire.
blarkey
touching it on the coil itself or what?
spearchucker
There should be small wires that connect to the coil
blarkey
there so small at the coil I dont want to try to strip or poke
spearchucker
there so small at the coil I dont want to try to strip or poke Then I guess you will never know if it is bad or not. Just sitting and looking at it isn't going to fix it.
