Ya know what, the guy with the scanner is right too, but you would want to varify with the meter. And the fella that mentioned the bearings is also correct, if the bearings are that sloppy the truck would be pretty hard to handle. That pic of your rotor didn't look too good for only 20k miles. You should look at your calipers. Gets pricey duddn't it... After you change the calipers you'll need to bleed the system. I'm thinking one of these guys can explain that one better than me. I've only done it once on anti-locks, and that was on a 1 ton ford van. It's important you get it right.

I'm, technical, but not this technical. haha.

I did pull the sensor from the hub when I did the rotors and like I said..to my eyes, fine? When it comes to checking the voltage and all that...thats when I need to call in an expert.

With it being a breaking issue, hauling my prize boat, and of course the kids...and wife, I figure its something that I best just let the 'experts' do it.

She's going into the dealer for diagnosis. Hopefully the estimate isn't too bad (I am unemployed) and then I can decide from there if I just let them fix it or myself.

Thanks for all the help guys! I really appreciate it! I will report back as to what the dealer says.

You would bleed a brake system the same way after replacing the calipers whether it had ABS or not.

If the outside of the rotor is shiny than the caliper is working. It is very common for the insides of the rotors to rust up on those trucks.

It doesn't take much play in a wheel bearing for the air gap between the sensor and the exciter ring to become excessive. Many times when the vehicles are test driven there is no handling issues. Just a little howl sometimes. In fact if you are noticing a difference in how the vehicle handles and the wheel bearing is the cause than you have just ignored months of warning signs including the bearing sounding like a freight train.

Just got home from the Dealer.

Its the left front bearing that's toast. They want to do both sides $1150 bucks.

That seems awful high for just the two bearings. Are they doing anything else?

The hub and bearing assemblies are available (even at retail) for around 200 or maybe even less.

An hour a piece labor puts you at around 600 give or take.

Yep. That's the dealer making $$. Thats all they had on the quote was both front sides bearings.

But lucky me, my buddy did them for me for 100 bucks labor, and I got the parts for 240. smile

Shes drivin like a champ again!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular. 
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.

    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
