Today Red Lake DNR, Red Lake Elementary Students and Northcountry Guides teamed up to educate students on the future of fishing on Red Lake.
We traveled to the Blackduck river today to watch and participate on the Walleye milking process. There was lots of oohs and aws from the students on the size and the amount of walleye that the DNR were netting in the river. The DNR gave an excellent presentation on how the process was done and what the future is for Red Lake.

The biggest walleye that was measured so far was 10 lbs. The students watched the DNR strip the eggs from a 5 lbs. walleye right before our eyes. A smaller male was displayed next to the walleye to show the difference in size. We also saw northerns and lots of suckers.

It was a very educational for the students and all that attended. Thanks to Red Lake DNR, Northcountry Guides (Matt Breuer & Scott Hanson), and Red Lake Schools for this opportunity.
