Tip ups

Hi,

I am debating about getting a few tip-ups to use while I jig the rod. I was wondering

1) How many can one person have in MN

2) Is it worth it if I use a hand auger and come January and we have 22 inches, do people still put in the effort?

3) What # line is popular? I see they sell 10 and they sell 30.

In Minnesota one person is only allowed two lines total on the ice. If you are jigging with one rod you can only have one tip up. A Tip up is considered the same as a line.

Lots of people drill lots of holes with a hand auger all year. It's up to you how much work you want to do, but I wouldn't let hand drilling stop me from fishing.

Go with a heavey braided line as a backer on the Tip up and then tie a leader on it. I would go with 6 or 8 pound test. If there are lots of northeren where you are going, you might consider a leader.

2 lines is the limit in minnesota

so you can have any of these combos.

2 rods & no tip ups

or

1 rod & 1 tip up

or

0 rods & 2 tip ups

you can do it with a hand auger but you could also ask someone on the lake that is close to you that has a power auger to cut you 2 holes. I know if I see someone using a hand auger I ask them if they would like me to drill some holes for them with my power auger.

as for tip up line 20 or 30 is good if you are going for northern. for walleye on tip ups I would go with the 10 with a mono leader. steel leader for northern
