Breaking in a 2 stroke

blackleech

Question

Ive got a new Laser Mag with "Solo" and am wondering how to properly break this motor in? Ive done some reading and have a mix of 50:1 Amsoil Sabre Pro in it. Ive used the auger to drill about 8 holes and then heard that the use of Synthetic oil will damage the motor, in that I may not get the cylinder rings seated properly?? So my question is should I dump out the Amsoil Sabre Pro mix and just go with a standard 2 stroke oil or is it too late to fret about? Strike Master states in their manual that a synthetic mix is OK and will not void warranty if its mixed at 50:1?? I'm somewhat confused and want to do the best for my auger??

Cheers!!

Well the interesting thing is that there is no mention of a "break in period" or procedure in the manual or online as far as I can see? I emailed Strike Master to get their answer but wont hear from them for a few days Im sure.

Cheers!!

I posted the information you are referring to and I stand behind my premise. Unless you know that your engine was designed to allow break in with synthetic oil why risk it?

That said, the only correct way to answer this question is to contact the manufacturer of your product and get their recommendation on how to correctly break in the engine. If they say to use synthetic oil, then by all means go ahead.

Asking for advice on a web forum is no different than asking for advice at your local pub.

Actually this wasnt you're info, sorry to dissapoint, it was posted on Fishing Saskatchewan ( you can check it out if you wish). Where can I find your article? Do you think it would be OK to go to a reg oil if I already had synthetic?

No dissapointment here. If you have already run the auger it won't really matter what oil you use, as it is probably broken in as much as it will ever be. Any oil will work, it's just that you can run thinner mixtures with synthetics. I still suggest checking with Strikemaster and following their recommendations on oil for the first half gallon or so of gas. Then switch to whatever oil and mix you want to run.
