rod holder/down rigger (Paul Waldowski)??

Paul, you mentioned in a previous post, that you have a board set up with 4 rod holders and 2 down riggers... Can you send me pictures or design specs? If you live in the Twin Cities, maybe I can just take a look at it?

Haven't gotten around to taking pictures of it yet. Should have them in a day or two. Too much ice fishing stuff in the way to get to it. Now that open water has begun all that ice stuff will be out of the way.

I live in Eagan. You would be more than welcome to come and take a look at it in person.

I take delivery on my new crestliner 4/8 and can barely stand the wait...

I've been checking out various rod holders and debating between a flush mount or side mount.

I want to check yours out before I start drilling holes in her...

I live in Oakdale and work in Savage, so I drive through Eagan every day.

Howdy Analyzer.

I like Paul's set-up and have seen that type of rigging on charter boats on lake Michigan. Very effective for that type of fishing.

I have 9 flush mount rod holders scattered about my gunnels (I have 6 rod holders, 9 bases). Very handy. I like the flush mounts because they're low profile, out of the way, and in my opinion they don't damage the appearance of the boat -- they look like they belong there.

I like flush mounts over side mounts because they take up less room and don't stick up or out into the boat.

The only complaint I have with my flush mounts is that rain and spray can go through them and into the storage beneath the gunnels. Just something you should be aware of. Some flush mounts come with a rubber cap you can use the plug the hole and keep the water out when the rod holder is not in the base.

Wow Perchy, you're keeping track for me! I'm impressed. I checked with Pierz and the boat and motor are in, but they don't have the trailer yet. Delivery may be delayed.

Regarding the flush mounts you installed. I looked carefully at the underside of the crestliner gunnels and they have this sprayed foam under there. What is the purpose of that foam? Is it for floatation, or just to quiet things down?

Should I put backer plywood underneath my flush mounts?

I'm going to go with the RAM rod 2000. I'm probably going to install 6 mounts and have 4 holders.

I also saw a couple beverage holders that drop right into those flush mounts... I thought that was pretty cool.

By those pictures, I'd say you must live in North Eagan, maybe north of Lone Oak, off lexington perhaps?

Always good to be able to pay for the things you've ordered!!!

When I put flush mounts in Alumacrafts, the gunnells were made of thick marine plywood. I used a hole saw to cut through, then used lag screws with silicon, or bolts with nyloks. Very, very solid installation.

I've also put rod holders in a glass boat. The gunnells didn't seem as strong, so I used backers there. Even fender washers will provide a lot of support.

I'd guess the foam is for flotation. I just cut out as much as needed with the hole saw and didn't worry about it.
