Our best opener ever.

Hi Guys/Gals,

My dad and I had the best North Dakota opener ever with both of us bagging our biggest bucks yet in the same weekend. I shot mine at 12:40 on Friday (40 minutes into the opener) with a clean kill shot from 200 yrds. My dad shot his 11 pointer on saturday afternoon with a nice heart shot from 100 yrds away. Both deer where shot on my in-laws farm which made it even a better experience. My deer scored 170 3/8ths with a 22 1/2 inch inside spread and my dads was 141 3/8ths. Both deer will be going on the wall for us. Thanks for looking and good luck on your hunts.

Good for the two of you! That kicker on the left side of your Dad's deer is cool! And yours, well it pretty much speaks for itself! They're both beautiful deer, and they'll look awesome on the wall side by side.

You asked earlier how my hunt is going this year....

I don't hunt the regular season anymore. I wait till muzzle-loader season. I apply for buck tags every year in ND, but as a non-resident, only get picked on a rare occasion.

North Dakota is really putting out bigger and bigger racks every year. When I shot my 170"+ a few years ago, I attempted to enter it into a big buck contest in Harvey. I figured it was a "slamdunk". The folks there just laughed and politely said, "We'll see at least 3 deer close to, or above 200 inches this year." I was blown away, but I believe them. I saw bigger deer waaayyy out that same year I shot mine.

Congratulations! Gotta love those NoDak whitetails! They taste like prime Angus Beef!

Canopy Sam,

I agree with everything you said regarding North Dakota bucks. I have been hunting their farm for ten years and the deer seem to get bigger and bigger. Tags are very hard to come by as non residents and it just happen my dad and I got buck tags. We both went 4 years shooting nothing or does until this year, very lucky to have the tags and the bucks come our way. I have never muzzleloaded before but looks very cool. Good luck on your hunt and thanks for the nice feed back. My dads kicker is really cool and what is not shown in my picture is the right brow tine is actually split into 3 points all over 3 inches long. Unfortunately the beam on the left side in front of the g2 was broken clean off at the base. None the less love the deer and am very happy.
