My season is over. Between my father in law and I, we tagged 4 deer (one with a bow and three with guns). We saw lots of deer. Two of the ones we tagged were good sized does. The processor estimated one of them to dress out at 115 lbs. The other one was just a little smaller. I have a pretty good pic of this one if anyone is willing to help me post it. I almost got a wall hanger buck (12 pt or so) bow hunting on Halloween. I got busted pulling back. All in all, a fantastic year. Best of luck to everyone hunting. Be safe.

Tough hunt up in North central Chippewa Forest near Leech lake. Not much hunter pressure, not much deer movement. I though the chase phase would be in full swing. I was wrong. I sat saturday (All Day), Sunday (All Day) and then Monday from 45 min before light till about noon before I took a shot and dropped an average 4 point fork horn year and a half year old buck. I took the shot at 20 yds after contemplating whether or not to for about 50 yds of the buck walking towards me. I know I made the shot partly because it'd make my wife happy. Anyway, nice to have the venison. In total after sitting about 32 hours in a ladder stand I saw 4 deer. 3 does that actually followed a drag rag with Deer dander sprayed on it. Couldn't beleive it but they actually followed my path to within 5 feet of my ladder... it was fun to watch them for about 30 min or so. My buddy got a deer of a lifetime after sleeping in on sunday and getting to his stand well after light only to get a close shot at a 150 + class monster. It had 12 scorable points, a ton of mass, 22.5 outside spread 19.75 inside, and it's G-2 on left side was 11.75 inches. Crazy thing is Jim took him less than a mile from my stand... Hugh.. good for him though, I'm happy for him. He asked me to so I'll post pics...

Was up around the Duluth area this past weekend, and had my best day/weekend deer hunting yet! Saturday I sat pretty much all day, and didnt see a deer until last shooting light. When I saw this buck step out of the swamp, I immediately knew he was big. He never presented a shot I was happy with, so I let him pass by and got out of there at dark. I was second guessing my decision the whole night.

Sunday morning I had a doe working my way about 30 min after sunrise. She was thru some brush, and I had the crosshairs on her. I decided to wait, as I didnt want a marginal hit. As I waited for her to step out, some dogs started barking off in the distance. She suddenly got alert, tail went up, and started to saunter off. Behind her I caught movement, and a big buck (I believe different than the one from the night before) was with her and started to follow. I had crosshairs on the back of his head, through some brush running directly away at about 40 yds. I decided to pass. I was shaking in my stand about what just came oh so close to being a great morning. About an hour later I heard a twig snap, and thought "couldnt be another deer". A nice 6 pointer snuck behind me. I put him down, with a very small window to shoot thru. I was pumped!

I remember being very content with the weekend, when I went on stand that night. Then I heard a deer coming in about 45 min before sunset. When he stepped out, all I saw was headgear! I readied for the shot, and when he got 40-45yds, I stopped him in the best "opening" I could find. I let the 30.06 bark, and he took off. I could tell he was hit hard. After just getting out of sight, I heard him crash. I gave him awhile, and then went to track him before I lost all daylight. 40 yds of tracking on a great blood trail and I had my hands on em'. I was absolutely awstruck. I'm almost 100% positive that this was the big boy I saw Saturday night, and decided to wait on (same stand). Sure is nice when stuff like that FINALLY works out! Bucks definitely get bigger than him, but this was a trophy to me! 9 pt 193 lbs dressed out.

Story doesn't end there. After the guys from camp helped me drag him to a clearing, we took a break to find the trail. I was walking through the swamp with my headlight shining infront of me, when I caught eyes in the grass. I walked up and about 5ft in front of me was a black bear, crouched down! He didnt really spook or move, so I backed off and we all started making noise. Eventually he took off. I'm assuming he caught wind of the fresh kill, but regardless it sure made a cool ending to the night!

Sunday AM sat in groundblind. had a fawn get really close (thought she might stick her head through the window!) aftershe left I rattled hard and hear one coming hard! I was set up ona ridge that drops off bot sides. from about 50 yds I can see steam coming from every breath, got gun up and out pops abasket racked 8pt! He was covered in frost and had steam pumping out both nostrils every breath! watched him look for the "fight"for5 minutes nd was sooo tempted just couldnt shoot him. after restraining myself and putting the rifle down see more steam where he popped out, hopingit was his pappy I got ready again. Well ou comes his twin so now there both mad looking for te big fight. They hung around for a bit longer then alked off.
