Open water fishing

Where are some good places for some open water fishing from shore around the metro area this time of year? I'm not too picky what species it is as long as i don't have to catch through an 8" hole in the ice!

Only places I could think of are warm water discharges. There are a few here and there. Shoot me an email at [email protected] for a spot. Good for carp and crappie with occasional bass, buffalo, pike, bowfin.

I was down in Red Wing this Mon and Tues, If you are looking for some fast action check it out walleyes and sauger. Best I have ever seen down there. Launched on Wisconsin side.

Muskie....Welcome aboard! To add to the info so far regarding RedWing, you do not necessarily need a boat either. Shorecasting is an option right in the downtown area in Red Wing. I'd try the channel side of Baypoint Park, the barge docking area just downstream from the grain terminal and along the waterfront down to the Hiway 63 bridge. Jigs and minnows will find the fish the fastest, jigs and plastics will get you larger fish as a rule. Because of the current, I would not fiddle with any jig under a quarter ounce.
