Glockophile
I planted 9 6'-7' foot tall emerald green arborvitaes 2 springs ago that became wind burnt from winter twice. This year I would like to wrap them with burlap, do you recommend this, and what time specifically should this be done?I live in Alexandria if that helps.Pointers on how much of the tree should be wrapped is appreciated. If there is an easier way than wrapping around the tree and fastening with twine or wire would also be good to know as well. Alright........Any info is appreciated! pushbutton
the problem with buying those big established evergreens is that they were probably grown in oregon and really have not seen a winter like ours. sometimes it is better to pay more for smaller locally grown ones, if that is even possible anymore. i realize that is water under your bridge and just mentioned it for others who may plant in the future, so yes wrapping them is a good idea. i would probably wrap them well into nov. after the weather has stabilized into a consistent cold pattern. wrap them from top to bottom, use twine to wrap and you can use a 1 1/2 nail to secure the seams. might want to consider putting a small piece of mouse bait in the bottom. Powerstroke
Also make sure to water those things as much as possible before winter. You're right about wrapping in burlap. Wrap the entire thing.
