Not Good News

Not good news at all.

The fishing opportunities sound exiteing for a minute .. but not worth the damage to the ecosystem they may cause.

I dont have a lot of faith in being able to stop these fish with electric, acoustic, or whatever type of barrier they have in mind... It sounds like a lot of money coming out of taxpayers pockets that will eventually be beat by nature .. nothing will stop them in flood conditions if there are numbers being held back by any type of *barrier*.

Why couldnt we be getting invaded by something like Zander? (cousin of the walleye that grows to 50 lbs)

Oh well ... I'll bet they will put up a heck of a fight on walleye tackle.

I like the idea of threading a few strains to produce only males or females in conjunction with an electronic barrier better than a barrier by itself. A barrier will also affect native fishes' spawn migrations.
Ya'll in the cities will have it worse than we will up here above the Coon Rapids Dam. I think the lock & dam system stops a few species from making it up here that are more common in or south of the cities; Flathead cats, Sturgeon, Paddlefish, Sheepshead.
Holy Carp, it's not too far north of Pepin that the Minnesota River plays into this scenario, eh?
