I have a Tikka T3 in 300 WSM. Last year I sighted it in shooting 150 grain bullets. This year I upped to 180's and now the scope is sliding in the front ring and the back ring is also sliding. The local sport shop tells me the extra recoil is the culprit and that I should use scotch tape or electrical tape under the rings. Is this a good idea. or do I need to spring for new rings. It came with rings so why aren't they doing thier job?

Make sure your scope and rings are clean and torqued to the correct inch pounds. "As tight as they go" is not correct. Also, if shims are needed you can buy scope ring shims, not something that will fail in inclement weather. Also I have seen 1" amd 30mm confused as "close onough if I crank em down".
