2001 Mercury Villager Power Window Regulator

Recommended Posts

I have a real quick question about replacing the power window regulator on the passenger side window of my wife's 2001 Mercury Villager. It's the first time I've tackled a project like this. I have the door apart to where I can access the regulator, but I'm really not sure about how to support the window while I'm chaging out the regulator. Any thoughts? Also, should the window be in a certain position when making the change? Currently it is stuck about half way up.

Thanks!

Once the window is disconnected from the regulator push it all the way to the full up position. Take a piece of black tape and start about 8-10 inches down from the top of the window, run it up over the top of the door, and down another 8-10 inches down the other side of the window. That will be more than enough to hold it in place.

Nice work Vfox. I was in the same situation as you earlier this week. My wife came to me on Sunday evening and told me that her passenger front window wouldn't go up or down. I looked at it and pressed the button. No sound. No movement. Monday morning I called around for a new motor/regulator and had it on order. As I was driving her car to the parts store, I decided to check all of the other windows. Neither of the back windows worked either!

...and that's when it hit me. She had unknowingly hit the child safety lock. I called her on the phone and said that I'd fixed her car and for significantly less money than anticipated! It's nice to get the easy fix every once in a while.
