2001 Ford Ranger 4X4

Drive slower. I bought one new, the best I would get would be 17mpg, but I had to drive 55 to get that, if I drove 70, I got 13mpg or so. Pulling my boat, ha, 8mpg. I ended up selling it, and buying a full size truck and get 19mpg highway, 15 pulling.

I had a '96 and I got 19-20 with it. When pulling wheelers I still got about 14-15. Maybe the older ones were better on gas. My dad has a '94 (manual tranny) and he can do better than 20. Mine was an auto with high miles. Same 4.0 motor though. The key is to take it easy with them. In my old age, i'm usually not in a hurry to get anywhere, so I just take it at the speed limit or slightly higher, just as much for fuel economy than anything else.
