steve schmidt
How do you get these mushrooms free of the "grit"? They are delicious; however I simply cannot get the sand out of the mushroom.HELP!!
Dark Cloud
At times they do pick up some grit. We start by cutting away most of the bottom area. Sure some is wasted but thats better than grit. Then we'll break down the mushrom into bite sized pieces throwing out any with dirt/debris. Then a good water bath and onto some old bath towels to dry overnight. We then vacume pack em into various sized packages, then off to the freezer. If you dont let em dry good they'll freeze funny and the bag will be full of ice crystals, and be soggy when you thaw em out... BTW - they are one of our fav mushrooms. Very meaty, flavorfull, and work well in many dishes... Right now is primetime out here. I need to get out this week...
