SoDak duck opener

Just moved to South Dakota for school and planning on going out Saturday. Just wondering how busy it usually is and what to expect for types of ducks. Done a lot of hunting in MN but this is my first hunt outside of MN.

plan on scouting the rest of the week. i would look for birds using flooded fields. what campus are you at? SDSU? the Brookings area will see a lot of pressure opening weekend. good shoots can be had, but scouting is the key.

Ya, I am at SDSU. I have been scouting the last couple weeks and have a couple flooded pastures to hunt. I have mostly seen Gadwal, Mallard, and Teal and was just wondering if that seems par for the course.

sounds like your ahead of the game. those pastures should produce a mixture of roosting feeding and loafing birds. should see decent bird movement throughout the morning. any honkers using those pastures? remember we can still shoot 8 per day during opening weekend. Good luck. i might be up that way as well depending on who i hunt with.

There were some geese, but not per person I will be hunting with. I forgot all about the eight geese per person.
