Hi everyone,

I plan on taking a trip to lake winter area in sawyer county this wkend. I've heard there are nice skie's, LM bass and wallys in there. I don't want anyone to reveal there secrets or GPS coordinates "it would be helpful though lol" but if you can confirm my thoughts or tips, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Special

The majority of my success for skies is on the south end of the lake, working the shoreline and dropoffs. There is alot of nice weed beds that exist in 8-10ft of water and come up within 3-4ft under the surface. Perfect beds to run topwater on for a grand explosion. The lake is prime, there are big girls in there. The most popular bait that has landed more fish and activity for me is a Poe's Giant Jackpot in Perch Tiger. I literally went through one bait in one day (literally unuseable), light rainy day, boated 4, lost 3 and 3 followups. Biggest was 48".I honestly have gone through 5 of these in the last 2 years. The BP usually has them, but it's not guaranted due to obvious reasons. I've been successful running bucktails (color varies depending on weather and water clarity) just under the surface. Most have been yellow and green bright colors. All in all, it's a great musky lake, not a ton of pressure, and don't be afraid to trail suckers either as you beat the shorelines up. If all else fails, try running some cranks parallel to the dropoffs at different depths, ya just never know. If you want more specifics on loc's, let me know, I can reference my gps when Im not slaving at work.

Thank you GatorBait,

No need for GPS coordinates, half the fun is learning the lake as well. I think you and I would have a blast fishing together since we both enjoy topwater baits and bucktails. It is tru that topwaters have low hookup percentage,,, but that explosion is priceless.

One of my all time favorite topwater baits are the TopRaiders. Have you ever tried those, they seem to hold up pretty well, then again I've never caught 4 fish in and outing either. I can only imagine, your joy.

Thanks again

ps,

If you see a tan/blue 16 Lund with a 50hp yami this wkend there, stop by and say Hi. I'll have a cold one for ya.

Thank you again, for the great advice. we also fished the Chippewa flowage.

However, I was unable to boat a ski. it was still a very fun trip, we saw a good amount of fish and im definitely taking another trip back there. The area is beautiful and would've been made a great background. lol

Thanks again,

Phil
