Lamson Konic Fly Reel

Recommended Posts

I bought a Lamson Konic 4.0 fly reel last year for fishing pike/muskie.

Drag: The drag on the reel is very smooth with lots of stopping power. I have been able to stop fish without that start up torque that can be common with heavy drags and snap even heavy tippets.

Weight: At 6.8oz, it's at the low end of the weight range for such a large fly reel.

Line Capacity: I've got 10wt line on the reel with 150yds of 30lb backing, with lots of room for more backing if needed. This reel could hold 11wt line and easily enough backing for anything in Minnesota.

Cost: At $150 for the largest version (the one I own) the reel is priced very low for the performance you get out of it. It's a cast-then machine finished part, so a lot of the cost of machining out of stock comes out of the price of the reel. I've had no issues with durability and I'm actually looking at getting another for my 6wt rod.

Overall, this is a very good reel at a very good price. It doesn't have the shiny looks of a Ross Evolution or other top end reels, but what it lack in aesthetics, it makes up for in functionality and price.

I give it a 4.5/5

Great Review OnAFly. smile

Trout gear is not cheap and it is money well spent to read up reviews like this before a purchase. I have not fly fished for trout yet, but I feel to urge could grow in the next couple years. Thanks again.
