WallyGader
I have a 91 merc. 40hp and the tilt and trim has always worked fine until the other day I got to the water and my motor would not tilt up or down but the elctric motor was running. Any suggestions!?
boatfixer
How is the fluid level?Check the manual release valve. it may be loose or the oring may leaking. That engine is from an era when they had issues with the pump. Unfortunatly there are no rebuild kits or replacement pumps. You will either have to find a used one or bend over and buy a new complete unit for around 800 bones if it turns out the pump is bad. KeystoneLight
Hey Boat Fixer, I have a Merc 115 and it got water in the tilt cylinder last winter, froze and broke. I ordered a new cylinder and rod [PoorWordUsage]'y, put it together and it doesn't have enough power to lift the motor. Any ideas on what I should check next? Pump? boatfixer
If all battery connections and battery charge are good, then yes. You more than likley got water through the entire system and the pump may be full of junk. You may have also got water in the electric motor as well.
