need advise on steering problem

Recommended Posts

I have a 115 hp merc with cable steering

I can hardly turn the thing anymore at low speeds like around the ramps.

On plane it steers fine so I think the cables must be ok?

I have greesed the fitting on the shaft of the motor and the one on the steering rod

any ideas?

Is this the old type with 2 cables where one pulls one direction and the other the opposite ?

If yes, I would suggest replacing it with a newer rotary style, you will have to replace the helm and cable and get the correct length.

If it's already a single cable unit, I would disconnect the motor and check if it turns, chances are the cable is bad, but the helm could be bad too. Try to separate each part to pinpoint the problem.
