1998 Chyrsler Concord AC problem

Recommended Posts

1988 Chyrsler Concord. The AC compressor will not turn on when AC is selected. Checked fuses, relays, etc. I can get it to turn on by jumpering 12vdc to it so i know it works. Is there any type of pressure switch or similar that might be open?

Any advice is appreciated

there is a high pressure and low pressure. however if the reason why the compressor is not coming on may be that there is a leak in the system that has allowed freon to escape the system. I would first check to see the system is fully charged but not til then would i jumper the switches as this action may result in a damaged compressor and system.

I failed to mention that the freon charge was tested and found to be correct

How would that be done if the AC doesn't run?

Sure, you can do a simple static pressure test but that doesn't tell how much freon is in the system...only that there is some amount of liquid left, could be just an ounce or two, or could be full.

I concur with Whoaru, however reading your post i did see that you said you jumped the system but not sure if you are jumping 12v to the compressor or bypassing any switches? Did you hook up gauges to the system to get readings? if you can give some ideas to these questions, it might help to troubleshoot the problem.
