97 F150 Cranks But Will Not Start HELP!

Recommended Posts

I have a 97 F150 4.6L that will not start. I jumped in Friday turned the key and crank crank crank until no end and no start. I jump started it and it fired right up Friday. I drove around town to several places shut it off and it started right back up each time. It sat for the afternoon and then Friday evening I went to start it up and crank crank crank no start. I attempted to jump it and that didn't work either anymore. I replaced the battery, cleaned off all the connections real good and nothing but crank crank crank. I checked for fuel pressure at the Schrader valve and it was dry, no pressure. So this leads me to believe there is an issue with the fuel pump right? I turn the key and listen for the pump to kick in but hear nothing. I have checked the fuses which are all good inside the cab and at the distribution box, checked the fuel reset button under the glove box and that is depressed. Is there anything else I can do at home before taking it in to the shop to unload serious $$$$$$$ on it? I have read about FDPM modules going bad that are located underneath the spare tire but I don't believe I have such a thing on my year model. I am going to attempt to rattle the fuel tank with a rubber mallet to see if that can rattle the pump a little bit if it is seized.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I have changed the fuel filter and all 8 plugs and wires within the past year.

Put a fuel pressure gauge on it to check pressure while you tap on the tank.

You can also pull the fuel pump relay and jump pins(30) and (87) with a fused jumper wire(same fuse rating as in fuel pump circuit), then check for power and ground to the fuel pump. You should be able to gain access to the fuel pump connector on top of the drivers side frame near fuel pump.

If you have power and ground at the fuel pump, but no pressure at the rail, pull the tank and put a new fuel pump in.
