Clear Lake Fishing Reports

Yellow bass are biting. Try drifting live bait or cut bait near the reefs and in the little lake. The best bite is early morning and in the evenings. A few walleyes are being caught; try fishing the reefs using jigs tipped with a minnow. Channel catfish are biting on crawlers and chicken liver fishing the windswept side of the lake. Sunfish are biting on worms off the jetties.

Yellow bass fishing has been hit or miss this past week. When anglers do find a school of yellows willing to bite average catches are 10 to 20 fish in a day. Most yellows are being caught in the little lake in 8 to 16 feet of water using live bait or cut bait. Like past years, yellow bass fishing should improve as we progress into the fall season. A few walleyes have been caught trolling with live bait on the west end of the lake.

Ice depths on Clear Lake range from 3 to 8 inches. Anglers must use caution and drill test holes when going out. Many spots on Clear Lake still had open water late last week so ice thickness is not the same throughout! There is a pressure seam that runs from Dodge's Point north to the Harbourage Canal that anglers should avoid. A few anglers are getting out on the little lake, but not many are reporting success yet.
